Welcome to Trinity Church, Camberwell.
By the grace of God, we have been a part of the Camberwell community
since 1885, when services of Christian worship first commenced, due to
rapid population growth in what had previously been an area dedicated
to market gardening.
The present church building was opened on the 27th April, 1906,
replacing the original church, a small weatherboard structure, which
had been quickly outgrown by an active and thriving congregation.
As a Presbyterian Church, we are part of that family of churches which
makes up the Presbyterian Church of Australia, and we come under the
pastoral oversight of the Presbytery of Melbourne East. We share in
common with our sister churches a commitment to the biblical and
reformed faith, as summed up in the Westminster Confession of Faith,
and also a commitment to that form of church government in which a
local Session, comprising a number of elders elected by the
congregation, provides spiritual leadership and pastoral care to
members of the church.
Those particular features which express our
character as a church are a strong commitment to the living of a holy
life, to the glory of God, and a desire to see souls won for the
Kingdom of God. This character is expressed particularly in terms of
nurturing home and family life, and seeing our next generation of
children and youth won for Christ. Many of our activities are devoted
to this end. One of the clearest fruits of this is to be seen in church
on Sunday, where time after time, as many as four generations of the
one family are to be found sitting together worshipping God, all
professing faith in Jesus. Increasingly, people who have come to live
in Melbourne from other parts of the world are finding a spiritual home
at Trinity. We love to welcome people of whatever race who have a heart
to seek after and follow Jesus. Should you choose to join us, you will
experience reverent and joyful worship, biblical preaching that is
direct; relevant and faithful, and fellowship that is real and
spiritual.
We are concerned to take God seriously, and allow Him to address us in
every area of life. At present, some three hundred people meet for
worship and fellowship every Sunday. I look forward to being able to
welcome you one Sunday soon.
Faithfully, yours in Christ,
Rev. Philip Mercer.
